The host though showed up a bad show in the first innings, they ended up the day, with a 41 runs lead. That really boosted their confidence, which resulted in the quick dismissals of all the Pakistan batsmen. Pakistan had entered the 4th day of the 1st match with 5 wickets already gone and Akmal and Misbah on crease.
But Zaheer struck early in the morning, in the name of Akmal. Then Tanvir lost his wicket. During the over, the new captain, had a huge faith on the former Indian Captain Ganguly and gave him the new ball. He responded with a huge smile. The first ball with the new one, he got the wicket of Misbah Ul Haq. Pakistan were restricted to a total of just 202 runs.
India entered into the 2nd innings batting with Karthik and Jaffer. But Akhtar’s pace was a nightmare, and similarly as of in the first innings, he was out early, with 2 runs. Jaffer and Dravid had a good partnership. Jaffer reached his 1st half century against Pakistan, and was out by Shoib. Dravid was soon out with 30 runs. Then Ganguly and Saching batted well till the end of the day. The match needed just 30 runs for its end and India’s victory, but due to bad light, the match was stopped.
Ganguly scored 48 runs when he was out in the morning, by Shoib. Then Sachin and Lakshman finished up the job and Sachin hit the winnings runs. He scored 56 runs not out. India winning the match with 6 wickets in hand. Kumble registering his first Test Victory as a Captain.
Kumble was adjudged as the Man of the Match, for his superb figure of 7 wickets in the match.
