With the happiness blooming in the hearts of the Indian public with the Cricket World Cup to be hosted in India in 2011, there is something else for the Indians to cheer for. Its now announced that the Hockey World Cup 2010 will also be hosted in Capital New Delhi.
The 12 nation tournamet will be co-hosted by International Hockey Federation and the Indian Hockey Confederation. FIH president Els van Breda Vriesman said that it was a special day for both the FIH and the Indian Hockey. The World Cup would be the FIH’s highest-profile event. It is the goal that the 2010 World Cup will be the most successful event in the history of hockey and that is the challenge, she added.
India the once Hockey Champions, with 8 Olympic Titles, had formerly hosted the World-Cup event back in the 1982, in Mumbai, then called as Bombay.
