Vijay is known for high expectation as when his movies are released you can see some huge crowds surrounded at theatres. Villu movie already released in “Singapore” and other countries and some of the song & scenes were uploaded in net. Due to curiosity to know about Vijay “Villu” movie I had contacted one of my friend at Singapore luckily he watched the movie and I asked him to review the “Villu” movie.
According to Nondikizhi the story is scripted as Vijay’s dad a trusty military officer who gets murdered by his colleagues Prakash Raj & Co-Villains. The goon’s then paint a picture that Vijay’s dad is a traitor and they strip his body because of this village people bans final rites of Vijay’s dad, his Mother (Ranjani) also tattooed that she is “Traitor’s Wife”.
Younger Vijay who grows up with his dad’s friend a commissioner who helps him to destroy all the villains. Purposely to revenge all baddies Vijay loves Nayanthara to get contact with Prakash Raj(dad of Nayanthara) and similarly with others. The remaining part of the movie is how Vijay takes revenges on baddie’s & whether he truly fell in love with Nayanthara or not???
Vadivelu comedy scenes are a plus to the movie but after interval it was totally missing. Vijay known as a dancer done his part well, Nayanthara is chic and glam throughout the movie and also tried some comedy sequences. Devi Sri Prasad composed some great tracks which were well choreographed. About Director Prabhu Deva he trust too much on masala than subjects anyway great dancer and a dedicated personality.
As a whole the movie is based on old revenge story with some newer inputs of visualization. As the Villu fight scenes leaked on net they were still giggles all around after seeing that stunt sequences. The movie is sluggish at some place even the normal audiences can identify what’s going to happen in the next??? I conclude that those who doesn’t like to watch any new things on cinema it will be a pure entertainer only to an extent.

After Pokkiri, Prabhu Deva and Vijay are back with ‘Villu’ a ‘Power pack Pongal’ for Vijay Fans. Vijay Fans in USA are thrilled to taste the feast two days prior to release in India. After two not so good movies such as ATM and Kuruvi, Vijay is back in form. As a rigid formula everyone in the theatre expect only a Mass entertainer from ‘Pugazh’-Vijay, and Prabhu Deva has done his best to maintain all the elements needed to give a complete Vijay movie – with super hero intro, romance ,comedy, several fights, item songs and finally hero wins over the baddies.
Story:
Hero Pugazh (Vijay) is introduced as a local area super hero who is the savior of poor and the needy. He acts as a Villu (arrow) of a senior Police officer Manoj K Jain and follows his instructions secretly. In his mission he targets international Dadas and as a part of the mission he makes love to Jhanvi (Nayantara), who as expected is the Main Dada Prakash Raj’s daughter. Who is Pughazh and why is he back of these dadas is revealed slowly following a flash back in the second half. Director has succeeded in keeping the suspense till the end. Though there are logical flaws here and there, story falls in place.
First half rocks the theater and major credit goes to Vaigai puyal Vadivelu. He tickles us every time he appears on the screen and especially his Nakka Mukka dance in front of Swiss Police is highly comical. Only Kids can enjoy his fight with the graphic cow. Nayanthara chills the screen now and then, its high time she start doing something than a regular heroine shouting at the hero and showing recession in costumes. She is the same in all her recent movies. Mam try to act for a change!
Devi Sri Prasad rocks the floor in ‘Jalsa’ and ‘Nee Kova Pattal’ is nice to hear and to see. He could have worked more on BGM as they don’t sync with the movie, rather sounds too bold at unwanted places. ‘Vaada Maapla’ and item song ‘Daddy Mummy’ is gonna be sizzling in channels for the following days for sure. ‘Dheem Thanana Thillana’ is a good dance number and ‘Rama Rama’ is a typical Vijay intro song meant to bring out josh in his fans, Prabhu Deva shows his mark in all songs and Vijay has proved that he is no less a dancer than the director. Kudos to the Choreographers! Kushboo and Prabhu Deva’s special appearance in the song adds spice. Villian Prakash Raj fails to impress and has been wasted.
Ravi Varman’s Camera has beautifully captured Zurich in songs and fight sequences are amazing. Prabhu Deva has brilliantly capitalized the talents of Ravi. Only one or two dialogues like ‘Enakku pottukudukka theriyadhu, Poda thaan theriyum’ pin the mind while others fly no where.
Analysis:
Villu has an entertaining first half, flash back in the second half is totally hindi ‘Soldier’ with added Tamil senti facts. Major Vijay, logic less Blue Ray Disc sequences, Drunk Nayanthara and no different villain Prakash Raj make the movie lag. Vijay imitates Superstar in some scenes which look very obvious and repetitive. Hero Vijay, song sequences, Cinematography and Vadivelu make ‘Villu’ a pretty good entertainer.

The Movie Villu – My View
The Perfect Masala Entertainer, This will entertain at the most to the target audiences except in the climax. Acc. to me this is superior to all the earlier Tamil Masala Movies.
Acc. To me, is lesser than the Previous Pokkiri, It might be big hit than Pokkiri but content wise is less in all parts as compared to pokkiri except the Camera Work and the Action Sequences. May be I feel this because I expected a lot from Prabhu Deva Team.
Characterisation: Being the Mass Masala Movie, it doesn’t miss any of the Masala Movies characters.
My View: According to me, I expected a lot from the movie, since they promised, movie is going to have a top class comedy, Bond kind of Film and all. But it fell short. Comedy in first part of the Flim is Hilarious. After that it slag. Action Sequences, many of it are unwontedly inserted for masala seek. I enjoyed watching the movie, but movie still missing few things. Some of the comedy of Vadivelu overseas is needless, away from the script, dragging, failed to make us laugh. Overall the movie is purely done only for the People who are Vijay Fans. Fortunately most of audiences like at least to some extend. He got a huge range of fans.
From the movie, we can see, Prabhu Deva have not given a great or Good Screenplay, but not bad one (OK), He can ask some to pen for him and he should do only the Direction. He is a good director, which we can be very well see in the movie. He made it look wonderful from his “not bad” script, if he got a good script he can to more magic.
The Movie also let lot of untied knots here and there. Being this is Masala Movie, which is quiet common, we forgive those for entertainment.
Performances:
Viiay: He had improved a lot in this movie (We can see by the way he Acts, Dance, Fight, etc). As told by Prabhu Deva earlier, he looks dashing and Vow. Asusual he Rocks and dominated the whole movie with Prabhu Deva Signatures.
Nayanthara: She had done bit extra than a normal Masala Movie Heroine. Her acting is also good. Not missed or overacted in any of the scene, her’s adequate.
Vadivelu: Not used as well as used in Pokkir, but give huge amount of laugh in first part of the Movie with Vijay & Nayanthara, His performances is not worked in many places in the movie because it was not penned well. He did his best on what is penned for him.
Prakash Raj: He was not let to dominate, like his other movies. His was not given room to explore him. Well characterised but being a Mass Masala Movie, he wan not given room.
Technicality:
Camera Work: Must tell, I can see the feel of Tamil Bond film through Ravi Varman’s camera. Good work especially in the Songs and Action Sequences.
Music: Once again, Devi Sri Parasad had given good Peppy Number, but too many of them. My Cool Pick are, Nee Kobapattal and Are You Crazy (Bit Song).
Choreography: Good but still pokkiri is best acc. to me. I felt more energy in Pokkiri than this. Except Nee Kobapattal which is awesome.
Action: Done Extremely good for a Bond Kind of Movie
Editing: Editor is one who does not got enough freedom to trim the unwanted scenes, because of the Masala Film Formula, it must run for 2 hour and 30 min.
DI (Digital Imagery): Good to see the movie with color correction and few other things through DI, I felt that that was not done with perfection, it is very prompt is most of the places and doesn’t merge with the frame.
I Like:
1. Prabhu Deva as a Director
2. Comedy among Vijay, Vadivelu and Nayantara
3. The way how the main core of the story unfold.
4. Nee Kobapattal and Are You Crazy Songs
5. Ravi Varman’s work
6. Stylish Look of the Movie
7. Action Sequences (Only for, how it is be made)
8. Vijay Introducing Scene
I Don’t like, Could have been Better:
1. Lot of Unwanted Scenes
2. Unnecessary Skin show throughout the movie.
3. Forced Songs and Action Sequences in unwanted places.
4. Mustache of Father Vijay (It looks very Funny, I can’t see any kind of boldness in that)
5. Too many of Peppy numbers.
6. Kushboo in Hey Rama song.
7. Hey Rama song don’t have more energy as Adungada (I think the Tempo is the Problem)
8. Pre Climax and Climax
Over All:
I would like to compare this movie to the following:
Lets assume, We are playing the game Rummy with playing cards with 3 sets of Spades,1 Set of Hearten and 2 jokers. After shuffling, the hearten go in between the spades and drags the pace of game. But it will be very interesting when the spades unfold. You will feel happy if you unfold the jokers. The Movie is exactly the same, core movie is the spade, Action Sequences and Songs are the hearten. Ofcourse comedy is nothing but the Jokers, in this case you unfold both of jokers very early in the game.
Verdict:
If you looking for clean entertainer, go watch and enjoy it.
If you are Niche about movies, don’t expect too much before you go to watch.
My rating would be 2½ out of 5 for Prabhu Deva, Ravi Varman, Vijay and First Few Scenes of Comedy.
